Position Title: General Manager (GM) & Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Position Overview:

The General Manager and Chief Operating Officer is responsible for all aspects of club operations and will work closely with the board of governors to shape the vision and develop the strategy that creatively refines and expands services/programs to meet the dynamic needs of the club. The GM leads, nurtures, and develops the management team and administers all policies and procedures set forth by the board of governors on behalf of the members. This position will play a proactive role with cultivating club membership to ensure a diverse representation of Hawaii’s business and social community, innovate new member activities and club services to enhance the guest experience and secure member retention. The GM oversees the exceptional dining experience including venues, catering, and special events and secures and protects the club’s assets, including facilities and equipment.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:Business Acumen:

  • Oversees a ten-million-dollar budget, which includes five-million-dollars in F&B revenue.
  • Plans, develops, approves, and executes specific operational policies, programs, and procedures in concert with the board of governors.
  • Analyzes financial statements, manages cashflow, and establishes controls to safeguard funds.
  • Reviews income and costs relative to goals and takes corrective action when required.
  • Coordinates development of operating and capital budgets according to the budget calendar and monitors monthly financial statements and takes corrective action as required.
  • Negotiates and recommends board of governors approval for contracts.
  • Directs purchasing, receiving, storage, issuing, preparation, and control of all products, supplies and equipment.

Board Relations:

  • Partners with the board of governors to implement the strategic and operational plan.
  • Prepares reports and other support material for committee and board of governors use.
  • Serves as liaison between all employees, the board of governors, and members.
  • Coordinates and serves as ex-officio member of appropriate club committees.
  • Monitors compliance with purchasing policies and procedures.

Leadership:

  • Responsible for the corporate culture and leadership that guide all club personnel toward optimal operating results, employee engagement, and member satisfaction.
  • Through a strategic lens, monitors all HR policies, training, and professional development programs as directed by the board of governors.
  • Strategically develops and oversees performance standards and workload.
  • Convenes and presides over meetings with executives and employees.
  • Has ultimate authority over inter-departmental matters and implements policies concerning employee-employer relations.

Membership & Marketing:

  • Strategically coordinates the marketing and membership relations programs to promote the club's services and facilities to potential and present members.
  • Develops and executes a membership marketing plan with the board of governors.
  • Orients new club members and welcomes all club members, during their visits to the club.
  • Reports member infractions to the board of governors for necessary action.
  • Keeps abreast of trends and competitors within the market.

Food & Beverages/Activities:

  • Administers all aspects of a five-million-dollar F&B budget. (Currently 40% allocated to catering and 60% to dining venues.)
  • Ensures the highest standards are met for food, beverage, sports, recreation, entertainment, and other club services.
  • Makes recommendations for additional programming (wine dinners, wine society, catering usage, etc.) with the appropriate committee and /or board of governors.
  • Ensure that all purchasing procedures, inventory, and Par Systems are effective.
  • Strategically manages all aspects of the club’s activities to ensure and maintain the quality of products and services provided.

Facilities Maintenance:

  • Provides advice and recommendations to the board of governors and committees about construction, renovations alterations, maintenance, materials, supplies, equipment, and services.
  • Consistently ensures that the club is operating in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws.
  • Oversees the care and maintenance of all the club's physical assets and facilities and ensures proper cleanliness and sanitation of all club facilities and environments.
  • Secures and curates the fine art collection.
  • Provides for and manages the use of the club's equipment, space, and materials.
  • Handles emergencies such as fires, accidents, and breaches of security or house rules promptly and personally.
  • Strong emphases on prevention through training, inspection, and preventive enforcement.
  • Works closely with vendors, outside contractors, firms, and individuals providing services to the club.
  • Maintains relations with police, fire, liquor control board, health department, and other governmental agencies.

Community/Club Relations:

  • Represents the club in external activities that enhance the prestige of the club or broadens the scope of the club's operations as approved by the board of governors.
  • Reviews and initiates programs to provide members with a variety of popular events.
  • Coordinates arrangements for public functions and social gatherings, incorporating protocol and special courtesies extended to members and guests.
  • Directs the writing and publishing of the club newsletter and plans for intra-club public relations.
  • Maintains membership with the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) and other professional associations.
  • Attends conferences, workshops, and meetings to keep abreast of current information and developments in the field with the approval of the board of governors.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, hospitality, travel industry management or related field; relevant experience may substitute for degree requirements.
  • Five (5) years of leadership experience with facilities oversight.
  • Five (5) years of F&B experience in multiple venues.
  • Leadership style aligned with the clubs’ culture and values.
  • Exceptional communications skills, both verbally and written.
  • Strategic thinker with strong business acumen.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in business, hospitality, or related field preferred.
  • CMAA designation of CCM (Certified Club Manager) or willing to attain this certification.

Cook

Job Title: Cook

Division/Department: Kitchen
Reports to: Executive Chef & Sous Chef
Location: The Pacific Club

Responsibilities: Perform food preparation tasks on a timely basis under the supervision of the Sous Chef.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform routine tasks for Cook/Pantry personnel, short of working a station
  • Serve food items on the buffet line
  • Assist in setting up and breaking down the buffet line Keep the kitchen clean and in order
  • Ensure quality and consistency in food preparation and presentation
  • Maintain the timing of orders· Assist Cook I, II and Sous Chef in other duties as assigned
  • Adhere to all Pacific Club standards and policies to achieve service excellence
  • Expedite orders in a timely manner
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of work area
  • Ensure daily inspection of food preparation in walk-in refrigerator to ensure proper rotation of food items

Education and Experience:

Utility Staff (Restaurant)

Job Title: Utilities Staff - Restaurant

Position Description Summary

Ensures that all Pacific Club members and guests receive proper, attentive, courteous, and professional service at the Club to include greeting tables with water and bread, refilling beverages, clearing and resetting tables, and communicating pertinent information to the kitchen. Must follow all club safety and sanitation guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assures that all state and local laws and club policies and procedures for the service of alcoholic beverages are consistently followed.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform required role during emergency situations.
  • Set up, serve, and clean dining and banquet rooms.
  • Performs opening and closing side work duties
  • Provides immediate attention to all members and guests upon greeting them.
  • Takes beverage orders when appropriate and serves food in specified station.
  • Pours and refills wine, coffee, water, and other beverages served with and after the meal.
  • Clears soiled dishes as needed.
  • Cleans all assigned work areas in kitchen and banquet areas.
  • Advises supervisor of any member or guest complaints as soon as they occur.
  • Assists in closing functions such as removing linen, bussing glasses, dishes, silverware, etc., and re-setting the room for the next function.
  • Adherence to schedules and attends staff meetings, including pre-shift sessions.
  • Consistently follows all food safety-related requirements.
  • Completes other appropriate assignments made by the Banquet Captain.
  • To work well as a team member with the entire club staff.
  • Operate under all guidelines, policies, standards, and constraints as set forth by The Pacific Club.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
